About Us
Dupont Circle’s Favorite Italian Restaurant
For nearly 40 years, Dupont Italian Kitchen has been a Dupont Circle staple—offering authentic Italian cuisine in a warm and welcoming setting. Founded by brothers Michael and Tony Askarinam in 1986, our family-owned restaurant has earned a loyal following with hearty dishes, affordable prices, and a community-first spirit.
Our upstairs bar is famous for its lively karaoke nights, and our patio is the perfect spot for people-watching during brunch with unlimited Mimosas or Bloody Marys. We’re also proud supporters of local causes and events, from Capitol Pride to the High Heel Race.
At Dupont Italian Kitchen, every guest is part of our family.

- Our Story
- A Community
- Something for Everyone
In 1986, two brothers, Michael and Tony Askarinam, turned a lifelong dream into reality with the opening of Dupont Italian Kitchen. As immigrants who built their lives working in Italian restaurants, they wanted to create a space where hearty, homemade dishes and a welcoming atmosphere felt like home.
From the beginning, their passion for comfort food and dedication to affordable prices drew attention. Locals and critics alike—The Washington Post included—praised their generous portions and family-style hospitality. Within weeks, long lines stretched down 17th Street, and the brothers worked 15-hour days to meet the demand.
For nearly four decades, that same family spirit has kept guests returning again and again. Today, Dupont Italian Kitchen remains a place where memories are made—over plates of pasta, glasses of wine, and conversations that last long after the meal ends.
Dupont Italian Kitchen is more than a place to dine—it’s a gathering space, a meeting point, and a safe haven for all. Over the years, we’ve become part of the fabric of Dupont Circle, embracing diversity and celebrating the people who make our neighborhood unique.
Our restaurant has long been a favorite within DC’s vibrant LGBT community. From lively karaoke nights in our upstairs bar to patio brunches during Capitol Pride and the High Heel Race, we’re proud to provide a space where everyone feels welcome and celebrated.
We also believe in giving back. Supporting local causes like the Walker Whitman AIDS Clinic and Ross Elementary School reflects our commitment to being more than a business—we’re neighbors, friends, and active members of the community we love.
At Dupont Italian Kitchen, great food knows no limits. That’s why we’ve crafted a menu designed to delight every guest—whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or simply craving your favorite Italian classic. From pizza and pasta to fresh salads and brunch favorites, everything is made with care and fresh ingredients.
Our weekend brunch has become a local tradition. Imagine sipping unlimited Mimosas, Bloody Marys, or Sangrias while enjoying the lively energy of Dupont Circle. It’s the perfect way to relax, celebrate, and connect.
Whatever brings you to Dupont Italian Kitchen—an intimate dinner, a family gathering, or a night out with friends—you’ll find warm hospitality and flavors that feel like home.
